Group Therapy

There is no experience quite like sitting in a circle, finding the courage to use your honest voice, and discovering what its like to grow and heal simultaneously with others. “Group,” as we call it, is unique because it allows members to work through their struggles and to see themselves clearly through the eyes of others.  It’s one of the few spaces in this world where we can speak openly and honestly about what’s really going on, right here, right now.  When members experience the power of speaking their truth in the moment, personal growth is accelerated and a sense of community is deeply felt.  I’ve seen it happen many times, and it still moves me.

How does it work? Because we tend to unintentionally recreate our relationship patterns with new people, Group Therapy is a space to slow things down, figure out what’s happening, and do things differently. The result is that we become better versions of ourselves and learn how to create and nurture the relationships we desire.

On the most basic level, people who join an interpersonal therapy group usually want to relate better to others and to feel better about themselves. More reasons why a person may join a group include the desire to:

    • Create and maintain close, and meaningful, relationships
    • Better understand themselves and their relational patterns
    • Communicate clearly and with confidence
    • Trust more fully in themselves and in others
    • Increase self-esteem and internal strength
    • Practice communicating thoughts, feelings, and needs directly
    • Understand and harness the power of emotions
    • Learn healthier ways to deal with anxiety: quitting people pleasing, becoming less controlling (or easily controlled), no longer relying on drugs or alcohol to manage stress or discomfort, and quitting addiction to self-criticism
