Psychotherapy for Adolescents and Teenagers
Growing up can be really hard. Adolescence is sometimes the most confusing and difficult period in our psychological development. And in today’s world being a teenager can seem almost impossible with all the social media pressure, full schedules, and new challenges – not to mention relationships with parents. My work with adolescents focuses on creating a safe space together to unpack all of these issues. I also work with parents to help build communication, confidence, and emotional intelligence in their kids.
Many teenagers, with their parents’ support, work with me to:
Manage General and Social Anxiety:
- Increase self confidence
- Reduce worry
- Feel comfortable with peers
- Use stress management tools
- Have and hold onto friendships
- Find direction and purpose
Decrease Emotional Difficulties & Risky Behaviors:
- Fight depression
- Express feelings
- Make good decisions even with peer pressure
- Stop self harming
- Decrease emotional stress
- Find alternatives to drinking and smoking
Have Healthy Internet & Social Media Use:
- Find balance with Social Media
- Use the internet less
- Learn anti cyber-bullying techniques
- Decrease video game usage
Increase Self Esteem and Postive Relationships:
- Feel good about themselves
- Develop a resilient self image
- Form healthy relationships
How to Begin:
Commonly, parents schedule 1-2 sessions with me first to share concerns and provide background information about their child. Thereafter I’ll meet with your child and we’ll begin therapy. As needed, we will have family sessions to help facilitate effective emotional communication. I’ll also meet with parents to provide recommendations, troubleshoot, and explain the course of treatment. For contact details, click here.
